William White (Bishop of Honan)
The Rt Rev William Charles White , DD, FRCS was an Anglican missionary bishop to China and later an academic specializing in the study of that country. [1]
White was born in 1873, educated in Toronto and ordained in 1896.[2]He spent one year at Trinity Church, Toronto before heading to China as a missionary. He was a Canadian Church Missionary in Fuhkien until 1909 when he became the first Bishop of Honan, a post he held for 25 years. [3] From then until 1948 he was Professor of Chinese Studies at the University of Toronto. He died on 24 January 1960.
